Kabhi Kabhi..

‘Kabhi Kabhi’ was a movie in the mid 1970's, with Amitabh as the Protagonist and Rakhi as his ex- Luver. I will talk about this particular scene which is quite touching. The scene begins with Rakhi interviewing the once-famous writer Amitabh on national television. She, who at one time knew him in and out, tends to ask him ignorantly  about his current series of work. To which Amitabh blendly replies that he has stopped writing poetry a long time back. This particular scene very succinctly puts a point that Rakhi has very well moved on in life and Amitabh still hold on to the past.

As the interview continues, we see Amitabh revert very personally to Rakhi on her generic questions. The pain and anguish is brilliantly portrayed by him. This is where he recites a poetry that defines his life, post her move on.....

Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein
Khayaal Aata Hai
Ke Zindagi Teri Zulfon Ki Naram
Chaaon Mein Guzarne Pati
To Shahdaab Ho Bhi Sakti Thi

Yeh Ranj-O-Gam Ki Syahi
Jo Dil Pe Chhayi Hai
Teri Nazar Ki Shuwaon Mein
Kho Bhi Sakti Thi
Magar Yeh Ho Na Saka

Magar Yeh Ho Na Saka Aur
Ab Yeh Aalam Hai
Ke Tu Nahin, Tera Gam,
Teri Justaju Bhi Nahin
Guzar Rahi Hai Kuch Is
Tarah Zindagi Jaise
Ise Kisike Sahare Ki
Aarzoo Bhi Nahin
Na Koi Raah, Na Manzil,
Na Roshni Ka Suraakh

Bhatak Rahi Hai Andheron
Mein Zindagi Meri
Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein
Khayal Aata Hai…..”

Quite a recite I must say. The interview ends and a new twist is brilliantly depicted through Shashi Kapoor, who enters the scene as husband to Rakhi. Shashi invites Amitabh for a drink and this is where he recites Amitabh's old poem. The camera focuses on Rakhi and Amitabh in the backdrop. Both lost in the past.
Kabhi Raste mein mil jao, to katrakar guzar jaana
Hame iss tarah taknaa jaise pehchaana nahi tumne,
Hamara Zikra jab aaye to yun anjaan ban jaana,
ke jaise naam sunkar bhi hame jaana nahi tumne!

A Brilliant shot. You can watch this scene in You Tube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEUjVUbJlPY&feature=fvwrel

“ Kabhi Kabhi, Mere dil main kayal athaa hain.... Magar Yun Hi.....Kabhi Kabhi "

I had no clue you were so clued into older Bollywood movies. This also happens to be one of my favourite portrayals of lost loves and of living life in the past.
Cheerio!
